Creekside Grill Campsite: Labor Day Weekend Escape in Modena, PA

Getting Away with Friends

Labor Day weekend 2023 arrived like a much-needed breath of fresh air, and with it came the call of adventure. Our destination? The picturesque Creekside Grill campsite, a gem we stumbled upon through the HIPCamp website.

In the weeks leading up to the trip, excitement bubbled among our group as Gina led the planning needed to organise the group!  The idea of escaping the daily grind and venturing into the wilderness with close friends had us all counting down the days. Getting to know everyone over the last six months has been great! This getaway was our chance to strengthen those bonds further.

Into the Wild

Our intrepid band consisted of myself, my girlfriend Kaitlin, her sister Kim, Kim’s wife Dominique, and our good friend Gina. Each of us brought unique personalities and talents to the group, and our dynamics were as diverse as the colors of the forest we were about to explore. The purpose of our journey was simple but profound: to escape the urban cacophony and bask in the embrace of the great outdoors. Our host, Rick (I think thats his name), would soon become a cherished character in our woodland tale.

Days of Adventure and Flavor

From the moment we arrived on Friday until our departure on Monday, Creekside Grill Campsite felt like a second home. What made this experience unique was our choice of lodging – a HIPCamp that grants access to remote camping sites on private property. Surrounded by the serene beauty of nature, we eagerly embarked on our adventure.

However, sustenance was never far from our minds. Dominique, our culinary maestro, took charge of the campfire kitchen. The flavors she conjured over the crackling flames were nothing short of magical. Campfire nachos, homemade moon pies – our taste buds were treated to a symphony of delight. One evening, we ventured to a nearby Beer garden, “Brothers on the Brandywine-Beer Garden,” where the Flying Dutchman food truck served up mouthwatering dishes. My choice, a hearty schnitzel, would become a cherished memory of our culinary adventure.

Our mornings began with the tantalizing aroma of sizzling bacon and Cold Brew coffee that Kaitlin had prepped for our trip!. Dominique whipped up hearty breakfasts that fueled us for the day’s adventures. Perfectly scrambled eggs, and crispy bacon were staples of our campsite breakfasts. Lunchtime at Creekside was a treat beyond words. Sandwiches stacked high with deli meats and snacks for days! But let’s not forget grilled cheese with a golden crust and savory soups warmed our hearts. We gathered around the campfire, sharing stories and laughter as we savored each bite. On the final evening, we feasted on campfire nachos, an indulgent blend of melted cheese, savory toppings, and crispy tortilla chips. It was a flavor explosion under the starlit sky.

Nature’s Embrace

Our days were filled with outdoor escapades that brought us closer to nature. The highlight, without a doubt, was our leisurely float down the Brandywine Creek on water tubes.

The cool, clear waters and the enchanting surroundings made for a surreal experience. But that was just the beginning. The campsite generously provided us with a John boat, complete with a trolling motor. We embarked on serene creek explorations, navigating the tranquil waters at our own pace.

Kim, always being a trailblazer, would go on solo adventures on the Kayak, even surprising Kaitlin and I while we were looking for wood! These outdoor excursions strengthened our bonds and etched memories into our hearts.

Unexpected Surprises and Warm Encounters

Of course, no adventure is without its challenges. The first night caught us off guard with an unexpected cold snap. Huddled together for warmth, we improvised makeshift blankets from anything we could find. Nature’s surprises didn’t end there. While exploring the nearby area, Kaitlin slipped on a dam rock, leaving her with a scraped leg. Quick first aid and her indomitable spirit had her back on her feet in no time.

Our interactions with the locals added warmth to our adventure. Rick, our gracious HIPCamp host, made our stay all the more enjoyable with his warm hospitality. Zipping around in his golf cart, he ensured our comfort and shared valuable insights about the area. Our visit to the Flying Dutchman food truck not only tantalized our taste buds but also introduced us to the charismatic owner, whose vibrant personality added a delightful touch to our culinary experience.
